Last friday we presented our initial concept for City pulse centered around the theme of waste reduction. Deriving inspiration from the city of Copenhagen itself, the team and I decided to address the movements of people, bikes and vehicles around the city as something that defines the unique characteristics of each city. While moving through the city, these people interact with art….it acts as a visual and mental stimulant of the urbaners. That led us to think about…..the Artist…What about the artist? What inspires him? If I was an artist in a new city, I would need a way to gain inspiration to create a piece of art because I would like to create meaningful art reflecting the life of the city at many levels.
What if there was a way to harness all the energy and patterns generated from the movements of the people, the pulsating life of the city ? What if we could take all the boring data and make it possible to convert it into beautiful art? Art that can be enjoyed by the people in real time thus creating a constant feedback loop between the city’s authorities, the artists and the citizens.
We decided to prototype three of the ideas: The dynamic city logo(real-time), the web interface , and pulse of the city(sound installation)
